How to Make a Mesh Fence Around Parking Lot
4/19/2012
At present, security for parking lots is more and more important. Creating your own mesh fence for parking lot is a good idea to protect your property. There are many different types, and there may be fencing codes in certain areas that prohibit the use of barbed wire or razor wire on the top of security mesh fencings, so before beginning this project, you should check with your local government office first. 1. Measure the perimeter of the parking lot. Put stakes in the ground to mark the location for the fence. Stretch a string between the stakes. 2. Dig a hole with the shovel at each fence post location along the string. Terminal posts are located at the corners, and line posts are evenly spaced every 10 feet between the terminal posts. Note: terminal post holes should be dug right next to the stake marker, and line post holes will be inset from the marker about 1/4 of an inch because the fence will attach to the center of the terminal posts and the front of the line posts. 3. Mix up a small batch of concrete and pour some into the first terminal hole. Sink the first terminal post into the hole so that the top of mesh fence post is 1 foot higher than the height of your security fence to provide an anchoring point for the barbed wire metal arms. 4. Make sure the fencing post is plumb and straight with two levels. Hold one level on the side of the post, another on the front of the post. Hold the post in position to set the concrete. Continue this process until all posts have been anchored to the ground. 5. Attach the mesh to the first terminal post. Unroll the fence as you work your way to the next post. Pull the fence as tightly as possible. 6. Attach the rail posts to the top of the mesh fence. Attach the fencing to all the posts in this manner. Attach the metal arms onto the tops of each of fence posts. Metal arms should angle outwards to prevent people from climbing over. 7. Pull the barbed wire tight between the arms, attach three strings of barbed wire to the metal arms. Some arms will have holes that the wire can thread through, while others require hardware to attach the wire to the arms. 8. Cut the end of the wire after it has been stretched tightly, then attached to the last arm with wire cutters. 9. Install a mesh fence gates at the entrance to the parking lot. Some gates may require a hole in the asphalt or concrete to sink a locking post into at the center of the gates.
