Five Steps to Install a Wire Mesh Fence Post

Wire mesh fence can provide a strong anchor point for fence in applications around a home, farm or commercial property. It is often used with chain link, chicken wire and livestock wire. The diameter of fence post usually between 2 and 4 inches. Installing a post for fence requires that the post be positioned securely in the ground so that it is able to withstand forces such as wind and animals. Dig a post hole using diggers at least 30 inches deep and 10-12 inches across. Dig it on the place where you want to install your wire mesh fence post.
Place 6 inches of gravel in the bottom of the hole and pack down firmly with the end of a 2-by-4 or metal tamp.
Place the mesh fence post in the center of the hole to make it rests on the gravel. Shovel in 6 inches of gravel around your fence post.
Use a torpedo level to level your fence post, then pack the gravel down tightly around your post. Before proceeding, you should check the level of the post again.
Adding 6 inches of gravel at a time and pack down firmly until the hole is filled just below ground level. Then you can back-fill the ground around the wire mesh fence post with dirt that was removed from the hole and level.
