Nowadays, it comes with a galvanized coating or pvc coating to help resist rust. Galvanized barbed wire offers a great protection against corrosion and oxidation caused by the atmosphere. Its high resistance allows greater spacing between the fencing posts. If the protective coating is removed and the chemical oxidation process is started, it would have an aged appearance. 1. Prepare some hot water and pour it into r into a bucket or wash tub, then add 3 tbsp. household table salt. Stir the hot water to make the salt dissolve.
2. Use a steel wool pad or sandpaper to remove the outer covering of zinc coating from the barb iron wire. Coil the barb iron wire into hot water so it is completely submerged. If necessary, add water to ensure complete coverage. Stir the water every 15 to 30 minutes for the first few hours. Leave it in the water for 8 hours.
3. Lay newspaper out on a flat level surface like concrete or a wooden panel. Choose a area with ample sunlight that will stay for at least 4 hours.
4. Remove the barbed wire from the water and place it instantly on the newspaper. Do not dry it, but avoid having pools of water left for it to sit in during rusting. Check the barded wire for the beginning of oxidation when you lose the sun exposure. Continue this process if you don't see any change.
